The Navy Lark - Episode Guide

List of Episodes of The Navy Lark Radio Show

Two hundred and forty episodes of The Navy Lark aired in fifteen series between the 29th of March 1959 and the 18th of January 1976. There were two Christmas Specials not broadcast in the UK in 1962 and 1965, a performance at the Royal Festival Hall to celebrate 21 years of the Women's Royal Naval Service as well as a Silver Jubilee Episode in 1977. In 2009 there was a Cast Reunion episode.

The show was written by Laurie Wyman and George Evans, produced by Alastair Scott-Johnson and transmitted by the BBC.

The Navy Lark follows the misadventures of the crew of a fictional Royal Navy frigate called HMS Troutbridge, based on the actual ship HMS Troubridge, and their commanding officer based at Portsmouth. The series starts with the crew based at an island off Portsmouth and then moves to the crew being based at Portsmouth itself.

Episodes were half an hour long and feature an introduction by a BBC announcer who sets the scene of the weeks episode. The announcer and other members of the cast often interact in character talking about something related to the plot.

At the start of the fifth series the setting of the show was changed to a TV Station and the name of the show changed to The TV Lark. The change was not popular and due to public outcry the crew was soon back at sea.

The Navy Lark is frequently broadcast on the BBC digital radio station BBC Radio 4 Extra and episodes are available for a period of time after broadcast on BBC iPlayer Radio.
